One of the best ever... a term overworked in sport but it might just apply to Noah Cantor and his outstanding five year career with the Huskies Football team.
An all-star at Ottawa's Ashbury College, Cantor spent less than 6 months at an NIAA Division II school in North Dakota before calling Larry Uteck. In one of Uteck's better decisions, he welcomed the 6'4" 245 lbs defensive lineman with open arms.
Cantor played with the Huskies from 1990-1994, helping lead the Huskies to four AUAA Championships, two Atlantic Bowls and two appearances at the Vanier Cup. His personal accolades include two nominations for the J.P. Metras Trophy, for the most oustanding lineman in Canada, two AUAA Lineman of the Year honours, three CIAU All-Canadian honours and four AUAA All-Star selections.
Cantor was a classic rush end who read opposing backfields extremely well and as a result was often double or even triple teamed. He wasn't the quickest of defensive ends and wouldn't overwhelm you with his size but his dedication, desire, drive and work ethic more than made up for that.
It was those intangibles that were noted by the coaching staff of the CFLs Toronto Argonauts. Cantor joined the Argos in 1995, and helped lead the team to back-to-back Vanier Cups in 1996 & 1997. In 2000, Cantor traded his double blue for the colours of the B.C. Lions and with a personal best season (32) tackles helped the Leos win a Grey Cup. Cantor was far from finished; he rejoined the Argos in 2003, was named a CFL All-Star in 2004, and helped lead the team to his fourth career Grey Cup. Cantor hung up the cleats in 2006, after a 12 year CFL career that saw him win four Gray Cups, one All-Star selection, and 264 career tackles and 30 career sacks.
Today, Cantor spends more time reading menus and thinking hamburgers than sacking quarterbacks. He is co-owner of the highly successful Veras Burger Shack - (13 franchises in Vancouver, and counting).
